Scenic flight package, Taupo's Float Plane

Orakei Korako

Scenic Flights From Taupo

Why drive when you can fly to this geothermal paradise! Take a direct flight in our Cessna floatplane from Taupo Marina and let us fly you north on a scenic trek through the clouds. We’ll then make a smooth water landing directly onto the Waikato River at Lake Ohakuri – greeted by Orakei Korako.

The Place of Adorning – Orakei Korako

As you step off the plane, Orakei Korako greets you. Meaning “the place of adorning” in Māori, Orakei Korako is New Zealand’s largest geyser field and a must-see when visiting Aotearoa.

Awarded as a “Top Choice” by Lonely Planet, here’s what you can expect to witness and experience:

  • Silica terraces including Artist’s Palette, Golden Fleece and the Emerald Terraces, naturally formed over thousands of years.
  • Diamond Geyser, a forceful geyser that ejects water in bursts up to 9 meters in the air.
  • Thermal pools with vivid multi-coloured microbial mats teeming with life.
  • Ruatapu Cave, New Zealand’s only geothermal cave, extending down to the Waiwhakaata hot pool 35m below the entrance.

Situated “off the beaten track” between Taupo and Rotorua, come fly with us!

Testimonial

Flat calm lake and clear blue skies. The weather could not have been better for our flight over the volcanoes. From take off to landing the experience was fantastic. Spectacular views of the erupting Tongariro - only possible from the air as the walking track is closed - and so close to the summit of Ruapehu that you felt you could reach out and touch it ! If you do anything in Taupo do this. Brilliant !!
